This report summarizes learnings that emerged during the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) fellowship evaluation discovery phase. It is intended to inform both the immediate and long-term support of future HBCU fellowship cohorts and the field more broadly.
Data sources were analyzed to answer the questions guiding the HBCU fellowship evaluation:
Insights were derived from one-on-one fellow interviews, the recruitment feedback survey, and structured observations during the HBCU site visits conducted in the fall of 2024. Insights included in this report were collected from researchers at the following institutions: Spelman College, Tennessee State University, Winston-Salem State University, Howard University, and Xavier University.
