Statement From RWJF on the Justice Department’s Attack on Philanthropic Freedom 

PRINCETON—The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation issued the following statement in response to reports that the U.S. Department of Justice instructed several U.S. attorneys to draft plans to investigate the Open Society Foundations. 

The Open Society Foundations do not stand alone. The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation proudly stands with OSF against this brazen and unfounded attempt to intimidate charitable foundations serving the public good.

This reported directive continues the administration’s relentless assault on free speech, which undermines the vital role charitable foundations play in strengthening democracy, health, justice, and opportunity so that all communities can thrive. For RWJF, this means working toward a future where health is no longer a privilege, but a right. 

Silence will not keep any institution safe.  People with power and privilege must raise their voices to denounce this dangerous overreach. The health, vitality, and safety of our communities are on the line.
