Mary Ann Lombardo
Media Relations Specialist
Mary Ann Lombardo, an accomplished communications specialist, joined the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation in 2018. Her work with the Foundation supports a host of projects and programs involving media relations and media outreach campaigns. She believes that “strategic media communications can ensure that national and local media, community partners, and the general public get the information and support they need in order to build a Culture of Health.”
Previously, Mary Ann served as the director of communications for a healthcare marketing agency. After building the communications department from the ground up, she worked on implementing policies, procedures, and best practices while overseeing internal and external communications. Earlier, she was a senior content manager; an independent author and columnist; and a script writer for a direct response production company. She also served as a producer for a broadcast public relations firm; a production coordinator for a broadcast media communications agency; and a production manager for a three-tiered production company specializing in media relations, broadcast communications, and digital communications.
Mary Ann has authored several books, including The Verbal Adventures of Handsome Pants and Val Gal; Dear Baby; and R.J.L.: A Pregnant Memoir. In addition, she wrote a monthly column for IndieReader.com and a weekly column for Widbook.com.
Born in New York City, Mary Ann was raised in Hillsborough, N.J., where she currently resides with her husband, their two children, and one crazy family dog. She earned her MS in publishing from New York University and a BA in journalism and communications from Rutgers University. While she has flown an airplane, paraglided, and skydived, she presently enjoys the land-based activities of walking, dancing, reading, and hanging out with her family.
