Anti-Oppressive practice is an emerging framework to advance attention to diversity and social justice in the way community systems and services operate. On Thursday, September 10, 2009, 2 p.m. (EDT) Laura Burney Nissen, M.S.W., Ph.D., national program director for Reclaiming Futures, and Ann Curry-Stevens, M.S.W., Ph.D., assistant professor and research fellow at Portland State University, will host a webinar to discuss how concepts of oppression, privilege and disparities impact the way in which services are constructed and successes measured.
The 60-minute session will explain the evolution of cultural competence frameworks and their impact on the fields of substance abuse treatment and justice. Presenters will identify tools to increase anti-oppressive practice specific to Reclaiming Futures, a national program of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
