The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation-supported PROMETHEUS Payment® project will begin launching pilot projects in January 2009, to test bold, new methods of reforming the way providers in diverse communities are paid. The PROMETHEUS team has spent considerable time developing a comprehensive method for coordinating payment across multiple providers for specific episodes of care. The result could be care that is higher quality, more efficient, and increasingly patient-centered.

This inaugural issue of the PROMETHEUS quarterly newsletter provides brief updates on the program’s recent achievements. The newsletter highlights work to develop Evidence-informed Case Rates® (ECRs) and an open-source playbook to show others what they are doing, as well as the interesting things happening at pilot sites as they prepare to launch the PROMETHEUS model.
