Early evidence reveals the built environment likely plays a role in obesity, but this role plays out in tandem with demographic patterns. For example, development of metropolitan areas has resulted in poor access to healthy foods for low-income people living in low-income neighborhoods. This paper explores three ways the built environment affects food access.
