Zombies Attack - Are You Prepared?

"Zombies" took over Philadelphia yesterday, in an effort to make sure public health planners can be prepared for any situation that might arise, according to a news release from Drexel University.
Drexel University hosts a weeklong certificate program in clinical simulation, to help public health educators plan simulated emergency events to help train public health and clinical staff. The program typically kicks off with a simulated emergency, like a fake explosion. But what better way to create the chaos and confusion that accompany such emergencies in real life – than to unleash a staff of trained actors dressed like zombies?
The goal was to show the attendees what it is like to participate in a simulation as a student with no idea what to expect, and to model the aspects of a useful public health emergency exercise. The zombie-themed event was inspired by a campaign from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention this past spring that used the tongue-in-cheek threat of a zombie apocalypse to drive buzz around disaster preparedness.
