External Assessment of TRAIN (Training Finder Real-time Affiliate Integrated Network)

Training Finder Real-time Affiliate Integrated Network (TRAIN) currently serves as the most widely used learning management system in the United States for public health workers and emergency responders. The Public Health Foundation (PHF) designed and administers TRAIN. More than a half million learners have registered accounts on TRAIN.

The first attempt at using TRAIN to survey individual health workers resulted in the 2010 National Pipeline Survey. Highlighting TRAIN’s advantages, a subsequent survey aimed at the 28 states which are not TRAIN affiliates was scrapped as posing too many methodological barriers. Subsequently, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation has funded the Public Health Foundation to develop three data sets and a webinar to facilitate further studies by researchers.
