Clearing the Air

This report reviews the history, scope and impact of smoke-free air laws across the country, their growing popularity and the contributions made by Americans for Nonsmokers’ Rights (ANR), the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF), the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, the American Lung Association and grassroots groups, including the Group Against Smoking Pollution.

The report reviews the health consequences of smoking, the benefits of smoke-free air laws, and advocacy efforts that have played a key role in the widespread adoption of clean indoor air ordinances in U.S. communities, with sections on the work of ANR's and RWJF’s program, SmokeLess States®: National Tobacco Policy Initiative.
