Launched in 2006, and now with four pilot sites operational across the U.S., the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation-supported PROMETHEUS Payment introduced an innovative payment model, moving beyond the often-tried unit-of-service or “paying for performance” theories of change to one focused on bundled payments for entire episodes of care.

In this update from the program, the concepts behind the model are reviewed along with its successes and challenges to date and the latest news from each of the PROMETHEUS pilot sites. The PROMETHEUS team says that there have been—and continue to be—a variety of successes and challenges to widespread implementation of the PROMETHEUS Payment model, which will continue to be explored in the coming months.
