Reducing Racial and Ethnic Disparities in the Health Care of Employees and Dependents in Detroit

From 2004 until 2007, representatives of General Motors, Ford, Daimler-Chrysler, Health Alliance Plan (a health maintenance organization), and the Henry Ford Medical Group (a health care provider network) implemented strategies to reduce racial and ethnic disparities in health care experienced by auto company employees and dependents in the Detroit area.

Key Results

  • The interventions virtually eliminated racial disparities in mammography screening and asthma medication use.

  • Project staff developed a simulation model to create a business argument for reducing disparities in mammography screening.
