Website Offers Guide on Effective Approaches to Cut Health Disparities
From mid-1999 through 2000, The RAND® Corporation synthesized and disseminated information on effective community interventions to address racial and ethnic disparities in six health areas:
- breast and cervical cancer
- cardiovascular disease
- diabetes
- human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-related disease
- immunization
- infant mortality.
Key Results
RAND conducted a systematic literature review and identified 240 manuscripts describing community-based interventions relevant to populations and conditions targeted by the CDC program.
RAND created a website, "Community Based Approaches to Reducing Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Health" to disseminate findings from its literature review.
For each health target, the site provides a summary of conclusions from the studies reviewed, a searchable database of the citations RAND identified, summaries of the manuscripts reviewed and an e-mail address for the appropriate CDC contact.
