Online Guides Provide State-Specific Health Insurance Information for Consumers

    • March 12, 2006

In 1998, staff at Georgetown University Medical Center's Institute for Health Care Research and Policy created a website to provide state-specific guides for consumers on getting and keeping health insurance and to distill information gathered there for policy-makers and journalists, supported in part by a grant from RWJF (see Program Results Report on ID# 031425). From May 2000 through June 2002, project staff updated and expanded the guides and enhanced the website.

Key Results

The project yielded the following results:

  • Project staff updated and expanded the 51 online guides (one for each state and the District of Columbia).
  • Project staff enhanced the Web site to make it more accessible and helpful to consumers.
  • Project staff created an electronic newsletter, News You Can Use from, to brief consumers and policy-makers about key issues in private health insurance coverage.
