Wharton School Creates Video Pilots for a Documentary About Leadership Under Stress

    • March 16, 2004

In 2003, project staff at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, produced two pilot videos for a proposed five-part documentary series focused on the characteristics of leaderships and leaders.

Key Results

  • The project team produced 7- and 14-minute pilot videos for Leadership 101, which follow a group of Wharton M.B.A. students through a one-day intensive exposure to Marine Corps training methods.

These include the classic rigors of boot camp—not only the verbal harangues of tough drill instructors, but also the physical intensity of the combat obstacle course.

As themes emerge from demanding situations, Michael Useem, PhD, Director of Wharton's Center for Leadership and Change Management, shows viewers how these lessons apply to cases of business success and failure.
