Videos Show Self-Help Strategies to Manage Psychiatric Problems

The Mental Illness Education Project produced two videotapes on self-management of emotional, behavioral or psychiatric challenges. The videotapes accompany a workbook by Mary Ellen Copeland, MS, a mental health recovery educator. The Mental Illness Education Project, a nonprofit organization in Brighton, Mass., produces and distributes video-based educational programs and related materials.

Key Results

Under the grant, project staff produced Wellness Recovery Action Plan (32 minutes) and The Wellness Toolbox (28 minutes).

These videos, along with a third video produced earlier (Key Concepts for Mental Health), compriseThe Creating Wellness Series, which uses excerpts from Copeland's workshops to present simple, effective self-help strategies for dealing with emotional, behavioral or psychiatric challenges.

The videos also feature people who have been involved with the mental health system.

Geared to self-help and support groups as well as individual consumers, people can use the videos separately or together. People can buy the videos online.
