Inner-City Health Care Center Reaches Underserved Residents
Martin House Community for Justice Foundation established a health care center in the Wilbur section of Trenton that provided an array of preventive and educational health care services for low-income individuals and families.
From 1992 to 1997, the health care center worked closely with St. Francis Medical Center to provide physicals, immunizations, treatment, and education to underserved clients.
The health care center also maintained linkages with its parent agency's extensive network of community social services.
The project was part of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) New Jersey Health Initiatives national program.
- Project staff reported that by building a confidence level in the community, the project provided more than 2,000 residents with accessible and affordable health and social services.
- Staff offered these individuals information urging them to take responsibility for lifestyles that promote health.
