Closing the Door on Gateway Drugs with an Animated Video

The American Youth Work Center created, promoted and distributed a 27-minute animated video, entitled Goldtooth, which was designed to educate children on the dangers of inhalant abuse.

Key Results

  • Goldtooth premiered before an audience of 300 people in November 1994 at the Second Animation for Development Workshop and Summit at Disney World in Orlando, Fla.

  • Ads for the video appeared in Youth Today, a newspaper published for youth workers, which resulted in the distribution of more than 3,000 tapes (2,102 in English, 990 in Spanish).

  • Some 1,720 additional copies of the video (1,080 in English, 640 in Spanish) were distributed in bulk at 18 Goldtooth training events that took place in 12 cities, including Juarez, Mexico.
