Montana Merges Health Data Sources to Provide Better Services for Minorities

From 1992 to 1993, the State of Montana sought to prepare, for the first time, a comprehensive overview of its health policy development and program management. It was interested in evaluating its health objectives and merging key health care data systems within the state.

The project was part of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) Information for State Health Policy national program.

Key Results

  • The project's Interagency Work Group (IWG) improved communication among health care specialists through a state survey of health professionals.
  • The project influenced legislative initiatives and merged several significant health data sources to provide better services for minority populations.
