RWJF Statement on King v. Burwell Decision

    • June 25, 2015

Princeton, N.J.The following is a statement from Risa Lavizzo-Mourey, MD, president and CEO of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, regarding today's Supreme Court decision to uphold the payments of tax credits under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) in all states, including those states whose insurance exchanges were set up by the federal government.

Today’s ruling by the Supreme Court is welcome news for the millions of people who have gained coverage under the Affordable Care Act.

The ACA has put millions on a path to a healthier future, including many who have been uninsured or underinsured for years. As a physician, I am especially pleased, because I know the critical difference that health coverage makes in the lives of families—giving them the peace of mind, economic security, and access to preventive care that is essential to leading a healthy life.

At RWJF, we resolutely believe that good health should be within reach of everyone, regardless of who they are or where they live. Today’s announcement by the Supreme Court presents a renewed opportunity for our nation to continue its remarkable progress towards making health coverage a reality for everyone in America.
