PRINCETON, N.J.—The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Sports Award, celebrating individuals and organizations that make their communities healthier through sport, is now accepting applications for the 2015 honor.
For the past decade, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) has presented the Steve Patterson Award for Excellence in Sports Philanthropy. Building on the Patterson Award, RWJF's new Sports Award will place a greater emphasis on collaboration across communities and sectors to build a Culture of Health, the Foundation's core vision.
The RWJF Sports Award recognizes the ways in which sports influence healthy change in communities by helping children maintain a healthy weight, creating safe play environments, encouraging positive behaviors, eliminating bullying, abuse and violence, and expanding opportunities for children living in poverty.
Those eligible to apply are making communities healthier through sport in the following three categories:
Category 1—A professional sports team community relations department or foundation based in North America
Category 2—An individual athlete or professional coach’s foundation based in North America
Category 3—An organization in North America that is an influential leader and model for others
The application deadline for this award is May 13th. Finalists will be notified before June 23rd and will be required to provide an additional video submission by July 14th. Winners will be notified in August and a public announcement will be made on September 10th at the 2015 award presentation in Princeton, N.J., at the RWJF headquarters.
Application details for the 2015 award can be found at www.rwjf.org/sportsaward/apply.
