RWJF Comment Letter to CMS on Physician Payment Data
On Sept. 6, 2013, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) provided comments to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) in response to a request for input on regulatory policies related to the release of data on payment to physicians.
In her comments, RWJF President and CEO Risa Lavizzo-Mourey, MD, encouraged CMS to release Medicare physician payment data and to do so in a way that minimizes barriers to data usage and access. RWJF believes that use of existing, reliable protections can ensure physician privacy. The Foundation, citing its ongoing Aligning Forces for Quality initiative in 16 communities nationwide, believes that measuring provider performance and payment—and transparently reporting this information—is critical to meeting our nation’s urgent need to become a high-value health care system.
