Texas Senate Bill 19 (SB 19), passed in 2001, allowed the Texas State Board of Education to require elementary school children to participate in 30 minutes of daily physical activity and required elementary schools to implement a coordinated school health plan. After implementation of the law, a poll of principals, assistant principals, nurses, PE teachers, faculty and counselors found that those polled were aware of physical activity requirements and that students were exceeding the minimum state physical activity requirements.
