Why Electronic Medical Records Are Important

In a June 30, 2009, interview with the Web site, Big Think, RWJF President and CEO Risa Lavizzo-Mourey, M.D., M.B.A., predicted that electronic medical records will revolutionize care by enabling health providers to offer better and more cost-effective treatment "because you are not duplicating tests that don’t need to be duplicated, and you know the results of those tests that greatly influence the care that needs to be delivered at that moment."

In addition, she said, patients will be empowered because they'll have information about their test results and medicines, as well as about the effectiveness of various treatments.
