Thomas M. Gorrie, Ph.D. Joins Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Board of Trustees

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) announced the election of accomplished health care industry executive Thomas M. Gorrie, Ph.D., to its Board of Trustees. Gorrie joins an existing group totaling 17 board members, from a wide array of backgrounds, who are passionately committed to improving the health and health care of all Americans and making a difference in our lifetime.

Gorrie is currently a global business adviser to companies and organizations in health care. A chemist by training, his international health care experience includes sales, marketing and general management roles in multiple Johnson & Johnson companies across all product categories. Gorrie began his career at Johnson & Johnson as a senior research scientist in 1972. He spent the next three decades ascending through the corporation in numerous capacities. Most recently, he served as the corporate vice president for Government Affairs and Policy, managing federal, state, and international government affairs and policy for the corporation.

“From leading the government relations division at a Fortune 100 company to collaborating with international health policy experts, Dr. Gorrie is a proven business leader and innovator in the health care industry,” said Risa Lavizzo-Mourey, M.D., M.B.A., RWJF president and CEO. “His business acumen, health policy experience and government relations expertise will be a strong asset to our board.”

A New Jersey native, Gorrie received a Ph.D., in chemistry from Princeton University and a B.A., in chemistry from Rutgers University. He currently serves as chairman of the board for the Duke University Medical Center Health System and sits on the boards of Duke University and The Hun School in Princeton. Gorrie is an adjunct professor at Rutgers Business School. Additionally, he serves as a senior adviser to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and a senior adviser to the China Association of Enterprises with Foreign Investments (CAEFI) located in Beijing.
