Harold Amos Medical Faculty Development Program
Physicians, dentists, and nurses from historically disadvantaged backgrounds receive research support and study with a mentor.

- General dentists with a master's degree or PhD.
- Registered nurses with a research doctorate.
- Note: Applicants must apply with a research faculty mentor who has supervisory experience.

- Study and conduct research under a senior faculty member.
- Must commit to 4 years of consecutive research.
- Receive support for transitioning from a newly-trained clinician into an independent investigator.
- Hone skills to foster the development of succeeding classes of nurses, dentists, and physicians.

- Create action-oriented research that benefits the health of community members.

Summer Health Professions Education Program
College students interested in the health professions attend a summer program to strengthen academic proficiency and career development.

Eligibility
- Undergraduate students, specifically rising college freshmen or sophomores at time of application.
- Students who identify with a group that is racially/ethnically underrepresented in the health professions or come from an economically/educationally disadvantaged background.
- Have a minimum overall GPA of 2.5.

- Strengthen academic proficiency and career development in preparation for health profession school.
- Gain clinical exposure through small-group rotations in health care settings.
- Attend sessions directed toward exploration of the health professions and the admissions process.
- All expenses are covered, plus a $600 stipend upon program completion.

Evidence for Action
Innovative research projects that build evidence and are both action oriented and scalable in improving population health or health equity.

- Rigorously designed quantitative, qualitative, or mixed methods research.
- Evidence generated through E4A should aid practitioners and policymakers in setting priorities and allocating resources.
- Studies should include measures of health outcomes or behavior factors that are well-established determinants of health.
- Interest in projects examining health impacts of interventions that address factors outside of health care services or public health practice.

- The primary target is late-stage research that directly tests health outcomes.
- A smaller portfolio of grants is dedicated to the development and validation of key measures to improve the assessment of population health, well-being, and equity.

Innovative research projects that use rich, unique data sources to draw new actionable insights for health-related policies and programs.

- Research projects with insights that can be implemented, maintained, and scaled.
- Applicants must be either public entities or nonprofit organizations with 501(c)(3) status.
- Applicants with interdisciplinary research teams, from diverse fields, or who are first-time applicants to RWJF are highly encouraged to apply.

- Generate actionable evidence about how, and how well, laws and policies work to promote population health, well-being, and equity.
- Support provided for collaborative learning, research translation and dissemination, and networking.

Rigorous research projects that identify how to align delivery and financing systems for medical, public health, and social services.

- Research teams from diverse fields that have expertise in medical, public health, and social services delivery and financing systems.
- Research topics should fit the program’s current topics of special interest, as listed in each CFP.
- Applicants must be either public entities or nonprofit organizations with 501(c)(3) status.
- Studies should focus on one or more mechanisms for system alignment that relate to the Culture of Health Action Framework’s Action Areas.
Details
- Build new scientific evidence on delivery and financing systems innovations that improve health and reduce inequities.
- Studies must address at least one focus area in the research agenda, including a focus on one or more novel mechanisms for systems alignment and integration.
- Studies should engage all three of the broad sectors referenced in the research agenda, including: 1) medical care; 2) public health, and 3) social community services and supports.
