CDC National Leadership Academy for the Public's Health: Apply Through February 3

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Office for State, Tribal, Local and Territorial Support has announced a new public health leadership opportunity, the National Leadership Academy for the Public's Health (NLAPH).
NLAPH is an applied approach to leadership training that brings together leaders from public health, health care and community organizations to work together towards improving specific, measurable public health problems within their community. Selected leaders also receive leadership training and technical assistance from national experts.
The goal of the program is to drive the adoption of evidence-based policies and practices into communities, better align medicine and public health, and ultimately improve health outcomes through sustainable policy and systems change.
A competitive process will be used to select 20 sites with teams of four people for the first year, and CDC expects that participants will represent the geographic and cultural diversity of the U.S., including tribal, frontier and rural communities.
Teams will be selected based upon their response to the program application. Applications are due February 3, 2012.
Key Features of the NALPH include on-site learning, distance learning, technical assistance, learning collaboration and evaluation. According to a CDC spokesman the program came about because, "the climate of public health leadership today is complex, rapidly evolving, and calls for new approaches to training and development of leaders."
