With the first-ever Pioneer Pitch Day (#pioneerpitch) around the corner, we wanted to take a minute to put the spotlight on our incredible line-up of guest judges, who will be joining RWJF staff to evaluate finalists’ presentations. We asked them to tell us why they decided to participate in Pitch Day – and we asked them to keep their answers to approximately the length of a tweet (140 characters). Here are some of their responses:

“The key to health is often implementation rather than awesome tech, so I'm eager to hear how pitchers will turn their ideas into reality." - Leading Angel Investor Esther Dyson (@edyson)

“People experience products, services & spaces, not technology, science or medicine. We need more design sensibility & creative confidence in health services.” - IDEO Life Sciences Chief Strategist Rodrigo Martinez (@rodrigoatcg)

“Fundamental improvements to health require a deep understanding of human behavior. Pitch Day unleashes creative ideas for change.” - NPR Science Correspondent Shankar Vedantam (@hiddenbrain)

“There's nothing better than seeing the energy and spirit of new entrepreneurs tackling hard problems with innovative solutions.” - PatientsLikeMe Co-Founder and President Ben Heywood (@patientslikeme)

“When we enable new innovations and applications in health, we support living, loving, and laughing a little longer amongst our species.” - Rhode Island School of Design President John Maeda (@johnmaeda)

We’ll be live tweeting on Pitch Day (October 16) from the AppNexus headquarters in NYC; join the discussion at #pioneerpitch.
