It's Really Your Blog. Real Deal!

Welcome to your blog. The masthead above tells you what our subject is – human capital issues in health care. But please, do not mistake that to mean that we’ve built this blog to talk at you. We’re not about one-way communication. Quite the contrary, we’ve built it as a two-way street: a place to discuss and debate ideas. We have a web site already, and invite you to explore the rich content we post there.

Our blog is a different opportunity: it’s designed to be a place for the RWJF “family” of current and alumni members of the Human Capital portfolio, along with foundation and program staff, to mix it up with our growing community of loyal website readers and other interested folks in cyberspace. Together, we can dig in a little deeper, swap ideas, agree or disagree, offer suggestions, provide encouragement, and more. Your participation is therefore essential. We want it, and we need it to make this blog a success.

The commitment of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) to social media runs deep. We use social media, including Facebook, Twitter and blogs, for the same reasons many of you do: We see these tools as a way to connect with people who are new to us, to reconnect with people who have fallen away from us, and to strengthen our bonds with longtime friends. What we learn from those interactions shapes our thinking and informs our work. The dynamic interactions in these venues teach us things we didn’t know, underscore things we need to go learn more about, help us gauge how our work is understood, and highlight emerging issues.

We hope the experience is similarly useful for you, and that you’ll let us know – one way or the other.

Here’s what you can expect to see on this blog:

  • Posts from RWJF Scholars and Fellows, talking about their work and about issues in health care that concern them.
  • Posts offering additional insights, behind-the-scenes looks or additional information related to articles that appear on our website.
  • Updates on our Scholars and Fellows’ accomplishments, including news about grants they’ve received and what they’ll do with them, honors, career milestones and media coverage.
  • Profiles of the various grant programs within the Human Capital portfolio, together with posts from the directors of those programs highlighting key accomplishments and challenges.

Of course, with everything we post, YOU will be invited to respond. (Remember this is a two-way information superhighway.) Some of those responses may persuade us that we need to refine our blog, and we’re fully prepared to do that, to make it as useful and interactive a place as it can be.

In a year’s time, this blog might look very different. I know I can’t wait to find out!
