On a surface level, it probably seems like one solution to homelessness is housing. But if you're only skimming the surface, you're seeing an incomplete picture.
Roughly 70 percent of the chronically homeless in America are burdened with serious health concerns, physical or mental inabilities, or problems with substance abuse. For many, those concerns constitute the root causes of their homelessness. So simply providing four walls and a roof only provides a partial solution.
Since 1991, the Corporation for Supportive Housing has been working to respond to the need for housing, together with the services to keep clients off the streets. CSH, supported by RWJF with other major foundations, tests the feasibility of supportive housing, raises funds to support its projects, and offers technical assistance to local and state agencies dealing with homelessness.
