Videos Show Self-Help Strategies to Manage Psychiatric Problems
The Mental Illness Education Project produced two videotapes on self-management of emotional, behavioral or psychiatric challenges. The videotapes accompany a workbook by Mary Ellen Copeland, M.S., a mental health recovery educator. The Mental Illness Education Project, a nonprofit organization in Brighton, Mass., produces and distributes video-based educational programs and related materials.
- Under the grant, project staff produced Wellness Recovery Action Plan (32 minutes) and The Wellness Toolbox (28 minutes).
These videos, along with a third video produced earlier (Key Concepts for Mental Health), comprise The Creating Wellness Series, which uses excerpts from Copeland's workshops to present simple, effective self-help strategies for dealing with emotional, behavioral or psychiatric challenges.
The videos also feature people who have been involved with the mental health system.
Geared to self-help and support groups as well as individual consumers, people can use the videos separately or together. People can buy the videos online.
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) provided $25,000 to support this project, which was conducted from September 2001 to July 2002.
