  • Lessons from Nursing Leaders on Implementing TCAB

A well-crafted and well-implemented program to engage front-line staff in quality improvement can have an impact on how things are done, according to this qualitative evaluation of pilot phases two and three of the Transforming Care at the Bedside (TCAB) nurse-led, quality improvement initiative. This article, appearing in a supplement to the American Journal of Nursing, details how Chief Nursing Officers and Unit Managers assess their experience with implementing TCAB. Although TCAB required major commitments of financial and staff resources, and unit managers encountered many barriers to implementing and sustaining the program, nursing leaders responded positively to questions about what they and their institutions had gained. All 10 hospitals that participated in both phases said they intend to continue their commitment to TCAB.
