RWJF Awards Funding for Projects Designed to Reduce Care Disparities

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) has awarded grants of up to $258,500 each to seven organizations to support the development and testing of interventions aimed at reducing racial and ethnic care disparities, AHA News Now reports. Awarded under RWJF's Finding Answers: Disparities Research for Change program, the grants will allow recipients to specifically evaluate interventions for cardiovascular disease, depression and diabetes, and diseases where "evidence of racial and ethnic disparities in care is strong and the recommended standards of care are clear," according to a press release. The seven projects receiving funding best demonstrated that their initiatives were replicable and sustainable elsewhere in the United States, according to program director Marshall Chin, M.D. According to a release, 111 project proposals were submitted. Grant recipients include Boston Medical Center, Brigham and Women's Hospital, and Massachusetts General Hospital; Denver Health and Hospitals Foundation; Aaron E. Henry Community Health Services; CIGNA HealthCare Mid-Atlantic; and the Fund for Public Health in New York (AHA News Now, 10/20/09; RWJF release, 10/19/09).
