  • Grant Results Report

From 2002 to 2006, researchers from the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education worked to evaluate the usefulness of electronic database searches in identifying the population health outcomes of social policies in education, social welfare and criminal justice.

Key Findings

  • Searches of electronic databases of randomized trials in education, social welfare and criminal justice can uncover interventions with health-related outcomes and variables.
  • Systematic reviews and meta-analyses of trials in the social sector also can help experts identify social policies that affect population health.
  • Information culled from searches of social interventions with health outcomes can provide the basis for deeper research in a variety of health topics.

Funding
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) provided $44,807 in support for this solicited project.
