The Food Security Partners of Middle Tennessee has received a two-year, $225,000 grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) to increase access to high quality and nutritious food in three underserved Nashville communities, the Nashville Tennessean reports. The Re/Storing Nashville Campaign will aim to increase access to healthy, affordable food options in the East Nashville/Cayce Homes, Edgehill and North Nashville neighborhoods. As part of the campaign, a leadership team will seek to attract grocery stores to the three neighborhoods, first identifying challenges associated with establishing a grocery store in the neighborhoods and then educating policy-makers on the importance of access to healthy and nutritious foods. The Food Security Partners also will work with faith-based organizations and community, government and business partners to develop creative ways to provide residents with nutritious food (DeVille, Nashville Tennessean, 2/4/09; Food Security Partners of Middle Tennessee release, 1/21/09).
