From Coverage to Care: Exploring Links Between Health Insurance, A Usual Source of Care, and Access
Having a usual source of care is associated with fewer delays in getting care, better preventive care, and better treatment. Given the importance of having a usual source of care, policy-makers should consider how alternative health insurance coverage strategies affect whether people get a stable source of care, in addition to obtaining coverage.
Some Key Questions Addressed in This Issue:
- What is the relationship between coverage and having a usual source of care?
- How do insurance transitions, or cycling, affect whether someone has a usual source of care?
- What are the main reasons people lack a usual source of care?
