  • Grant Results Report

The Indiana Coalition to Reduce Underage Drinking conducted statewide activities to reduce alcohol use among underage youth through policy change.

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) provided more than $1.6 million for this project under its national program Reducing Underage Drinking Through Coalitions from 1997 to 2005 (for more information see Grant Results).

Key Results

  • Creating the Orange Ribbon public awareness campaign and engaging in other activities to raise awareness about the problems of underage drinking.
  • Passage of a keg tracking law in 2002. The purpose of the law is to hold adults responsible for kegs that they buy for underage drinkers.
  • Passage of a law that required mandatory alcohol server training. The goal of the training is to decrease illegal sales to minors and intoxicated patrons.

Funding
No RWJF funds were used to support any lobbying activities. Other sources—including the federal Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, the Governor's Commission for a Drug-Free Indiana and Youth as Resources-contributed about $100,000 to support lobbying and other activities.
