  • Grant Results Report

From 1998 to 2000, staff at the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology developed and promoted a set of pediatric asthma diagnosis and management guidelines for primary care providers.

Key Results

  • In October 1999, project staff developed, published and distributed some 28,000 copies of a set of pediatric asthma diagnosis and management guidelines for primary care providers, entitled "Pediatric Asthma: Promoting Best Practice Guide for Managing Asthma in Children."

The guidelines carry the endorsements of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
  • The academy sponsored two conferences in which attendees reviewed the guidelines, identified barriers to providing best practice and learned about effective education and management strategies in different health care settings:
    • In May 1998, 223 health care professionals attended the "Pediatric Asthma: Promoting Best Practice" conference in Washington.
    • In October 1999, 244 health care providers attended the "Pediatric Asthma: From Policy to Practice" conference in Washington.
