The Medical College of Wisconsin has granted $300,000 over three years to support efforts to assess the current and projected health care workforce needs in the state, the Business Journal of Milwaukee reports. Administered by the Wisconsin Medical Society and the Select Committee on Health Care Workforce, the funds include $108,000 earmarked for the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development to expand the collection and analysis of data on Wisconsin's current R.N. workforce and enhance the department's nursing shortage projections. Meanwhile, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services will use a $106,000 grant to analyze the state's public health workforce and ensure ready access to health care providers. Finally, the Wisconsin Center for Nursing will receive $46,000 to improve nurse workforce data collection, and the Medical College of Wisconsin's Department of Population Health will leverage $40,000 to advise on the current and projected public health workforce needs within the state. According to the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development's secretary, the grants will allow the groups to "address labor shortages, especially in high-need fields such as health care" and assess "future health care labor force needs in Wisconsin."
