In a June 30, 2009, interview with the Web site, Big Think, RWJF President and CEO Risa Lavizzo-Mourey, M.D., M.B.A., says that if we want to rein in health care costs and improve patient outcomes, we must find ways to deliver the right care at the right time. Citing cases where additional treatment is not only unnecessary, but harmful, she notes that people get appropriate treatment only about 50 percent of the time.
