Shortly after work on this volume of the Anthology was completed, Jim Knickman announced that he was leaving the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to become president and chief executive officer of the New York State Health Foundation, a new philanthropy devoted to improving the health of New Yorkers.

As co-editors of the Anthology for the past decade, Jim and I have worked closely on an almost-daily basis. Jim's analytical ability, understanding of health and health care, knowledge of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and high professional standards are unique and have been critical to maintaining the quality and integrity of the Anthology. In his new position, Jim will continue to make his mark on health and health care, but he will be sorely missed as co-editor of the Anthology series.
