Projects in Boston and Minneapolis, Minn., provided special school-connected mental health services to help refugees and immigrants recover from trauma under Caring Across Communities: Addressing Mental Health Needs of Diverse Children and Youth.

New Directions in Refugee Youth Mental Health Services

Project SHIFA is a school-based mental health promotion program for Somali youth. The project uses school environments and parents, teachers and primary care physicians to introduce youth to the mental health services available to them.

Obesity Prevention in Children: Synergy with the Diabetes Initiative

The Diabetes Initiative extended its work to preventing or reducing childhood obesity, within four of its 14 diabetes-focused projects. The pilot projects targeted children ages 3 to 12 at greatest risk for obesity, particularly children in low-income communities.
