This article examines the relationship between local drug policy, and adolescent attitudes toward and use of marijuana. More severe local drug policy on marijuana use is associated with a decreased likelihood that adolescents will use the drug and an increased likelihood that they will disapprove of marijuana consumption and perceive it as a risky behavior.

Evaluation
The Fighting Back evaluation collected a broad range of qualitative and quantitative data from various sources about the nature and impact of the interventions in each of the 12 Fighting Back communities.

Program Result
A group of 37 physicians worked to advance public health and medical approaches to national drug policy. From 2004 to 2007, the legal community joined this effort as part of the new Physicians and Lawyers for National Drug Policy.

The National Conference of State Legislatures tracked state-level legislative and ballot initiatives involving the medical use of marijuana as part of the organization's Health Policy Tracking Service.

Program Result
The Fighting Back program was a $87.9 million national program to assist communities of 100,000 to 250,000 people to implement a variety of anti-drug strategies. It ran until the fall of 2003.

Program Result
Between 2006 and 2010, nine state-provider partnerships identified and removed barriers and changed administrative procedures in order to improve the quality of substance abuse services. RWJF supported two of the partnerships, in New York and Oklahoma.
