Hawaiian Self-Determination for Persons with Developmental Disabilities Pilot Project Helps People in Remote Areas

The Developmental Disabilities Division of the Hawaii Department of Health implemented a project to support change in long-term care service delivery system for people with disabilities, from one that is provider-driven to one that is consumer-directed.

Starting in March 1998, clergy in Waterbury, Conn. developed the Waterbury AIDS Outreach Ministries Program, a project to create a series of retreats and a buddy system for people with AIDS.
