Tobacco

Although tobacco use has decreased, it is the leading cause of death in the United States. Implementing a combination of policy changes including clean indoor air laws, higher per-pack taxes, and cessation efforts are proven to reduce tobacco use and exposure to secondhand smoke.

Helping Young Smokers Quit: Identifying Best Practices for Tobacco Cessation

While some supporters report favorable results from their personal experiences with school-based drug testing, formal studies published to date have not as yet shown drug testing to be an effective deterrent, and research has identified risks associated with implementation.
