Health Insurance Enrollment

Starting October 1, millions of Americans can find and enroll in quality, affordable coverage through health insurance marketplaces.

Enrollment Begins

Risa Lavizzo-Mourey, MD, RWJF president and CEO, marks the October 1 launch of open enrollment through health insurance marketplaces as an historic opportunity to cover America’s uninsured.

Health coverage will soon be a reality for millions who need it. And most importantly, that coverage will translate into more opportunities to live longer, healthier and fuller lives.

What is a health insurance marketplace?

Health insurance marketplaces, or exchanges, are where individuals, families and small business employees can shop online for health insurance plans.

All plans offered through the marketplaces cover essential health benefits such as doctor visits, emergency care, hospitalizations, prescriptions, and more. Plans also cover preventive care—including checkups and screenings—at no cost to the patient.

Through the marketplaces, people will be able to enroll in and purchase plans online, in-person, and over-the-phone. There will be trained experts to answer questions and provide guidance through the enrollment process.
