TEDMED's Great Challenges in Health and Medicine

Far-reaching conversations about the health and health care of Americans

"At the end of the day, much of what we do is done is in silos. We need a better framework for effective action."—Shirley Bergin, TEDMED

Dates of Project: February 2012 through January 2013

Field of Work: health and health care challenges

The Work: TEDMED launched the Great Challenges Program to explore what it called "20 of the most complex, multifaceted, and insufficiently understood challenges to the health and health care of Americans."

Starting with its annual meeting in April 2012 and using a wide range of tools including social media, TEDMED and selected "Challenge Leaders" supported a series of wide-ranging conversations about the 20 challenge subjects. TEDMED also launched online and social media platforms for discussion of the challenges and opened that discussion to the community beyond TEDMED.

It's about bringing many constituencies together. The answers aren’t going to be from any one of us, they’re going to be from all of us.” —Jay Scott Walker, TEDMED
