Getting Americans Covered: Ideas from the Field

An RWJF solicitation

Date of Solicitation: May 2010. Projects ran from November 2010 through December 2012.

Field of Work: Implementing the Affordable Care Act (ACA)

Problem Synopsis: The ACA was expected to make health insurance coverage available to more than 30 million more Americans. Achieving such substantial increases in the number of Americans covered by health insurance largely depends on the success of efforts to implement the new law effectively at the state level.

Synopsis of the Work: The RWJF solicitation, Getting Americans Covered: Ideas from the Field, resulted in the funding of 10 projects totaling $1.77 million. Projects focused on addressing specific aspects of the new law that present significant opportunities to expand coverage (e.g., Medicaid expansions, subsidy programs for small businesses and individuals who otherwise would not be able to afford insurance, or private-market health insurance reforms). Program Results on some of the individual projects are linked to the Introduction.
