Developing a health information management system for New Orleans' coordinated school-based health centers

Problem Synopsis: Hurricane Katrina left a diminished primary care capacity for children in Greater New Orleans. To improve primary care for these children, school-based health centers with integrated electronic medical record and practice management systems needed to be developed.

Synopsis of the Work: The School Health Connection of the Louisiana Public Health Institute developed an electronic health information management system for new school-based health centers in Greater New Orleans.

Key Results: The Louisiana Public Health Institute through its School Health Connection procured, instituted and maintained an integrated electronic medical record system at 10 school-based health centers. Clinic staff created more than 10,500 patient records and electronically documented more than 50,000 patient visits.
