RWJF Provides States With Resources to Expand Coverage

Coverage gains from Affordable Care Act depend on states' efforts.

    • August 11, 2011

In May 2011, RWJF announced the ambitious goal of ensuring that 95 percent of Americans have stable, affordable coverage by 2020. In order to reach this goal, the Foundation is employing numerous strategies, including providing technical assistance to states working to maximize the coverage gains that are possible through the Affordable Care Act. Technical assistance is provided through the newly created State Health Reform Assistance Network (the State Network). Focusing initially in 10 states, technical assistance offered through the State Network will focus on setting up insurance exchanges, instituting insurance market reforms, expanding Medicaid to newly eligible populations, streamlining eligibility and enrollment systems, and using data to drive decisions. Technical assistance will be provided by leading national organizations and experts in the field of health policy and coverage. The State Network is based at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University.

The Foundation is committed to sharing the knowledge created by working with the 10 states that are part of this program. On a regular basis the Foundation will release reports, syntheses and other materials that can be beneficial to all states working to improve access to stable, affordable coverage for residents.
