In this article, the authors examine the association between spirituality healing among Latinos and their attitudes of self-reported perceptions about the medical encounter.
Nearly 70 percent of the U.S. Latinos interviewed in this telephone survey thought that spiritual healing was very important in maintaining health and well being. Of the 3,728 Latinos who participated in the survey as part of the Pew Hispanic Center/Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Latino Health Survey, 60 percent prayed for healing and 49 percent asked others to pray for healing.
The authors suggest that the results of this study can be used by physicians to better understand the use of prayer and spirituality by the Latino population.
